From London's Royal Albert Hall, Stephanie Hughes welcomes the culmination of this summer's 108th season of Promenade Concerts. Following the terrorist attacks of September 11th in America, the evening in 2001 offered a subdued program reflecting the nation’s grief. But this year, the event's customary patriotic warmth and celebratory atmosphere are expected to return, marking an evening dedicated to both the Queen's Golden Jubilee and the centenaries of William Walton and Richard Rodgers.
