Synopsis

From London's Albert Hall, Stephanie Hughes welcomes us to tonight's performance. The evening features a single work, a traditional highlight of the Proms season: the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, conducted by Andrew Davis. They will perform Olivier Messiaen’s remarkable *Turangalila Symphony*, a work of immense scale requiring a vast orchestra. The piece showcases solo performances by Pierre-Laurent Aimard on piano and Cynthia Millar on the distinctive ondes martenot.
