Synopsis

From London's Royal Albert Hall tonight, live coverage commemorates the 60th anniversary of the London Blitz. Valery Gergiev leads the World Orchestra for Peace, a project conceived by the late Sir Georg Solti, in a performance of Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 7 (Leningrad), an enduring emblem of musical defiance against war and tyranny. The program begins with Debussy's *La Mer*, and the broadcast is presented by James Naughtie.
