Synopsis

The first of four Promenade concerts, specially recorded for BBC television and featuring interviews with the performers, is introduced by James Naughtie. American soprano Dawn Upshaw explores the breadth and energy of the music that shaped her early years. Accompanied by the London Sinfonietta, conducted by Eric Stern, and American pianist Fred Hersch, she presents works by Bernstein, Copland, Weill, Gershwin, Rodgers and Hart, and Sondheim.
