Synopsis

The concert's second half opens with Dukas's *Fanfare from La Péri* and the world premiere of Harrison Birtwistle's *Panic*. Birtwistle's new composition is followed by Berio's arrangement of Boccherini's *Ritiata Notturna di Madrid* and Stokowski's arrangement of Dido's Lament from Purcell's *Dido and Aeneas*. Subsequently, after Saint-Saëns's *Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso*, comes the customary celebratory finale of the Last Night: Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance March No. 1, Sir Henry Wood
