Synopsis

Celebrating their 60th anniversary, the BBC Philharmonic joins the Proms season. Led by principal conductor Yan Pascal Tortelier and as part of the centenary celebrations of the Proms, they will perform two works that first appeared in Britain at these concerts. The evening features Ravel's Piano Concerto for the Left Hand – originally composed for a pianist who lost his right arm in the First World War, and tonight’s soloist is Jean-Yves Thibaudet – followed by Sibelius's formidable First Symph
