Klaus Tennstedt conducts Beethoven's Choral Symphony, the monumental work that concludes with Schiller's Ode to Joy. The German conductor achieved international acclaim for his interpretations of this piece following his departure from East Germany in 1971. He became principal conductor and music director of the London Philharmonic in 1983, and is now the orchestra’s conductor laureate.
