Synopsis

The Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, a cornerstone of European musical tradition, is presented here by John Tusa. Under the leadership of Principal Conductor Kurt Masur, the orchestra performs Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 3. The work, known as "The Scottish," premiered in 1842, led by Mendelssohn himself. He had been inspired to compose it during a visit to Holyrood Palace in Edinburgh. The evening’s program concludes with music by Richard Strauss, with whom the orchestra shares a deep and end
