Jane Glover introduces tonight’s performance by Oscar Shumsky, a leading American violinist, who will play a cherished work frequently featured at the Proms: Brahms’ Violin Concerto in D Major. Born in 1917, Shumsky once played with Toscanini in the NBC Symphony Orchestra. Yet, this reluctant virtuoso declined an international solo career, as he recounts to Jane Glover.
