Synopsis

The opening of six weekly Sunday-evening concerts in the 90th season of the Henry Wood Promenade Concerts presents Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5 in E minor, Op. 64. The BBC Symphony Orchestra is led by concertmaster Maurice Brett, with Marek Janowski conducting. Tchaikovsky himself conducted the premiere of this symphony in St. Petersburg in 1888, with Johannes Brahms in attendance. The evening is introduced by Richard Baker.
