Synopsis

The 1980 Henry Wood Promenade Concerts commenced last week at the Royal Albert Hall in London. The opening of the four televised Sunday evening broadcasts on BBC1 featured Sir Charles Groves conducting the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (principal player Barry Griffiths) in Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6 in B minor (Pathétique), with an introduction by Fran Morrison.
