Synopsis

The first of six broadcasts from this year's Henry Wood Promenade Concerts features the esteemed Soviet pianist Emil Gilels in a rare television appearance. He performs Grieg's beloved Piano Concerto with the London Symphony Orchestra, led by principal player Irvine Arditti and conducted by Colin Davis. The program also includes Stravinsky's Symphony in Three Movements, a 20th-century masterpiece. The broadcast is introduced by Richard Baker.
