Synopsis

The first half of tonight's Prom from the Royal Albert Hall will be broadcast in stereo on BBC2 and Radio 3. On the program: Mozart's Symphony No. 39 in E flat (K 543), followed by Shostakovich's Violin Concerto No. 1, featuring Ida Haendel on violin. The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra is conducted by Hans Vonk, with guest leader Barry Griffiths. The broadcast is introduced by Peter Barker. Sound: Graham Haines. Lighting: Hubert Cartwright.
