Synopsis

This was the third of six occasions at the Royal Albert Hall celebrating the Anniversary of the First Promenade Concert. Craig Sheppard performs Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 2 in F minor with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, under the leadership of concertmaster Bela Dekany and conducted by Charles Mackerras. The concert program opens with the same piece that Henry Wood conducted at the inaugural Prom on August 10, 1895: Wagner's Overture to Rienzi. Richard Baker introduces the work.
