Synopsis

This was the third of six performances at the Royal Albert Hall during the 1973 Henry Wood Promenade Concerts. Andre Previn conducted Rachmaninov’s choral setting of Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Bells,” featuring Sheila Armstrong (soprano), Robert Tear (tenor), and John Shirley-Quirk (baritone). The LSO Chorus, under chorus master Arthur Oldham, and the London Symphony Orchestra, with concertmaster John Brown, accompanied the singers.
