Synopsis

The Royal Albert Hall is abuzz with television cameras, capturing the opening of the Henry Wood Promenade Concerts. This is the first night of the Proms. The BBC Symphony Orchestra, led by Paul Beard, is conducted by Sir Malcolm Sargent. Alvar Lidell provides the introduction. The program features Rossini's Overture: The Journey to Rheims, followed by Shostakovich's Piano Concerto No. 2, Op. 102, with John Ogdon on piano.
