Synopsis

The second half of the opening concert at the Henry Wood Promenade Concerts, held in the Royal Albert Hall, London. BBC Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Sir Malcolm Sargent, with Paul Beard as leader. The concert featured soloist Eileen Joyce and included Wagner's overture to *The Mastersingers*, followed by Saint-Saëns' Piano Concerto No. 2 in G minor. Benjamin Britten's *Variations and Fugue on a theme of Purcell* (from *The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra*) was also performed.
