Synopsis

He felt a growing unease, a suspicion clinging to him like a shadow. It seemed to him that those around him were somehow compromised, involved in something he didn’t understand. He longed for release from this atmosphere, for a way to be removed from the situation. He asked, almost pleadingly, to be excused, to be taken out of the fold.
