If you have fond recollections of the original animated show, be warned: this live-action adaptation is a significant disappointment. It began with some potential, and the initial three episodes were reasonably pleasant to watch. However, it quickly deteriorated as new writers took over, transforming everything into something unrecognizable. They altered the source material and seemed intent on pushing an agenda; the final three installments were so poor that I just wanted them to be over. I won’t elaborate, but here's what I appreciated and disliked: Positives: 1. The casting choices were well-made; the actors resemble their animated counterparts. 2. The actor portraying Zuko is quite good. His uncle, however, feels somewhat silly. 3. There are some instances of impressive CGI work. Negatives: 1. The acting, directing, and writing quality are subpar. 2. There’s a lack of character development or believable relationships between the characters. 3. The story has been significantly altered, now resembling another generic Netflix series focused on female empowerment. For example, it's disheartening to see waterbending women relegated to nurturing roles; they should be fighting alongside others and challenging societal norms. Scenes like Katara defeating Zuko, Azula being portrayed as the ultimate fighter – these feel forced. It’s hard to enjoy anything nowadays without receiving a lecture about something. 🤦🏻‍♂️ Ultimately, this is an extremely disappointing reimagining (if you can even call it that). I'd much prefer rewatching the animated series than wasting time on this. 4/10.
