I ended up liking this series quite a bit and think you should consider watching it, maybe giving it a few episodes to really get into it. I noticed there were many one-star reviews for this program. Often those kinds of reactions stem from discomfort with seeing diversity in characters—particularly after so long with predominantly straight white male leads—but that doesn’t appear to be the reason here. So, I'll respond to some of what people have been saying. I get being annoyed by detectives who have complicated personal lives and especially difficult teenagers. It’s true that I appreciated the Rowan Atkinson version of Maigret because it was refreshing to see a detective with a stable marriage. But regarding this show, I can’t help but wonder if some of those complaining about the characters' issues were themselves rather difficult as teens. Also, if they had watched more than just part of an episode, they would have seen how the characters developed and their relationships improved over time. In fact, I think Annika’s team can be a bit abrasive at times, and that’s something the series plays on. Some viewers didn't care for her speaking directly to the camera. I’ll admit that I grew tired of that device in *Atypical*, which was my only real issue with an otherwise excellent show, but it doesn’t bother me here. It highlights Annika’s cleverness and suggests she is well-educated. And I particularly liked how they used it at the end of the final episode. Others criticized the plots and dialogue, among other things, but I didn't find that to be the case. Now, I do think a longer runtime—perhaps 90 minutes—might have been beneficial; sometimes the cases felt rushed in the hour format. Many shows focus on one central case throughout an entire season. A few people seemed to want Nicola Walker to return as a character from *Unforgotten*, but that’s too absurd to even address. Others were attached to some original radio version and kept bringing it up. (I understand the TV adaptation was written by the same person, so I don't get what the deal is with that.) On a separate note, I generally manage okay with Scottish accents, but occasionally characters spoke quickly or mumbled, making them hard to understand. My streaming service didn’t offer captions for some reason. Ultimately, I enjoyed the show and am hoping it gets renewed.
