It’s baffling to me how anyone could find fault with this lovely reimagining of Anne of Green Gables. It surpasses the other adaptation that featured Martin Sheen in every respect. The performers are all perfectly cast. What distinguishes this version from previous ones is its depiction of Anne's difficulty integrating into Avonlea. Episode 3 was particularly difficult to watch, as it portrayed Anne facing bullying and judgment from everyone in Avonlea. Other versions alluded to this, but here, you genuinely empathize with Anne; she certainly had a rough time. This makes her eventual triumphs feel even more rewarding. The actress portraying Anne is an absolute joy to watch! Many female fans who grew up with the 1980s series will insist that there’s only one Anne and that's Megan Follows, but they really need to move past that sentiment. Amybeth McNulty delivers a truly remarkable performance as Anne, demonstrating maturity beyond her years. This version reminded me of the Canadian television programs I enjoyed in my childhood (Road to Avonlea, Emily of New Moon, etc.), and it’s clear we need more shows like this.
