Though the year 1955, marked by Rosa Parks' courageous refusal to relinquish her seat on an Alabama bus, is often cited as the movement’s genesis, the groundwork had been laid decades earlier by the activists of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. While figures like W.E.B. Du Bois and Thurgood Marshall are well known within the NAACP's history, Walter White, who led the organization from 1929 to 1955, has largely faded from remembrance. With his fair hair and blue eye
