Synopsis

The remarkable history of the initial battle against cancer, and the dedicated group who persevered to protect women from cervical cancer, centers on an unlikely alliance. This coalition included Dr. George Papanicolaou, a Greek immigrant; his courageous wife, Mary; Hashime Murayama, a Japanese-born artist; Dr. Helen Dickens, a pioneering African American obstetrician and gynecologist practicing in Philadelphia; and a burgeoning generation of women scientists.
