Synopsis

In 1980, a near catastrophe unfolded at a Titan II missile complex in Damascus, Arkansas. The incident brought a ballistic missile, armed with a nuclear warhead sixty times the destructive force of the Hiroshima bomb, perilously close to explosion. The crisis began when a socket detached from a wrench held by an airman conducting maintenance within a Titan II silo, puncturing the missile's structure and releasing a torrent of highly volatile rocket fuel.
