Synopsis

The story of the American response to starvation in Soviet Russia during 1921, a largely forgotten chapter known as The Great Famine, details the most devastating natural disaster to strike Europe since the Black Death. Five million citizens perished. Across the Atlantic, the United States mounted an extensive two-year relief effort, spearheaded by Herbert Hoover, director of the American Relief Administration.
