Synopsis

The early years of Abraham Lincoln and Mary Todd are recounted in this, the first of six installments charting their enduring relationship, beginning with their disparate beginnings and eventual courtship. He hailed from humble origins; she, in contrast, was raised in affluence, the daughter of a Kentucky banker and slaveholder. Several of her brothers would perish in the conflict that tore the nation asunder. When they first met, he possessed a certain naiveté, while she was poised and refined.
