Synopsis

The April of 1927 brought not only floodwaters to Greenville, Mississippi, but also a surge of racial conflict in its wake. LeRoy Percy, the town's most prominent planter, was considered a man of moderate views on race, yet he aligned himself with other planters in refusing to evacuate their Black laborers, fearing the loss of their essential workforce. As recollections suggest, these workers were relegated to the back of the line for Red Cross aid, and with this inequity, tensions escalated.
