Steven Spielberg started his career in television, and as his fame grew, he developed AMAZING STORIES, a show similar to THE TWILIGHT ZONE. It's not accidental that this new series appeared shortly after his participation in the failed attempt at a TWILIGHT ZONE movie. Spielberg’s involvement changed throughout the show’s time on air, sometimes directing episodes and other times just contributing story concepts. Regardless, his presence is noticeable across all of it. The chance to collaborate with Spielberg caused quite a stir in Hollywood. Directors like Martin Scorsese, Clint Eastwood, Burt Reynolds, Brad Bird, and Robert Zemeckis each directed an episode. Actors such as Kevin Costner, Carrie Fisher, Kiefer Sutherland, Rhea Perlman, and Danny DeVito were among the many well-known performers who appeared in the series. John Lithgow received an Emmy for his performance in the poignant episode THE DOLL. Because of the show's wide range of stories, each one should be judged individually, as if it were a separate film. Evaluations would naturally change from very good to not so great, considering that the production costs ranged from large-scale war sequences to simpler studio sets.
