This show has become something of a yearly tradition for me; I consistently watch it at least three times each year since its debut. The limited run—just two seasons—certainly plays a role in that, but my continued interest is largely due to my fondness for cyberpunk and science fiction elements, the subtle nuances I notice with repeated viewings, narratives exploring what it means to be human, and the fundamental concept driving the storyline. This won’t be an exhaustive critique, even after all this time and multiple viewings, however if any of the reasons I rewatch it appeal to you, you'll likely appreciate most of season one. And those who consider themselves hopeless romantics will probably find a lot to like in season two as well. I’ve noticed some online criticism regarding Season 2, with people pointing out what they perceive as inconsistencies in the protagonist’s actions. But having watched this series repeatedly, I can confidently say that the groundwork for their transformation into a hopeless romantic was laid even in Season 1; one of the theme songs itself is steeped in romance. Furthermore, there's a thirty-year gap between the two seasons—a person’s personality, habits, moral compass, and so on, are bound to evolve over three decades, particularly if they’ve been struggling throughout that time. It required several viewings for me to fully grasp this, but now that I do, my assessment has gone from a 9 to a perfect 10. It's flawless. I’ve become so invested in it that I’m currently reading the books, which have entirely different stories and timelines, and I am enjoying both equally for the time being.
