The title immediately suggests it was headed for trouble. A program like this simply isn’t sustainable on standard television; the money spent on its creation doesn't seem reasonable. It would have needed to air on a subscription service to make financial sense. However, it didn’t even run long enough to be taken off the air due to budget concerns. Around 2013, science fiction seemed to be struggling across the board. There was a general lack of enthusiasm for the genre in America, and when Almost Human premiered, being interested in geek culture wasn't really fashionable. That said, the show itself was quite good. The premise had been explored previously as a film starring Harrison Ford, but expanding that idea into a television series proved to be impressive; it held considerable promise and was a very strong effort. Unfortunately, its debut coincided with a period when audiences weren't receptive to science fiction stories.
