Elaine tried out for "A Chorus Line," but there was no invitation to return. Later, she stumbled into the casting director – a man she found both appealing and kind – and they shared dinner that led to intimacy. The next morning at work, guilt gnawed at Elaine; she felt she hadn’t truly invested herself in the audition. Nelle attempted to offer comfort. Meanwhile, Richard's father was seeking his assistance; he faced a lawsuit from a former secretary alleging sexual harassment. He had dismissed
