When Maria is dispatched to Lieutenant Gruber with the sausage concealing the original Fallen Madonna for reproduction, she is intercepted by General Von Klinkerhoffen. He secreted the sausage within his wardrobe and detained Maria until the Resistance returned his beloved motor mower engine.
