Kanna’s mother spoke of being “tainted.” Together, they fled the mountain, but their pursuers were swift. Before succumbing to her fate, she entrusted Kanna with an ancient prayer. As the monks closed in, the three spoke of a peaceful life by the sea, though Kanna knew it was but a fleeting hope.
