Koryo Academy isn't your average high school—here, students develop unique abilities called Blazes, physical embodiments of their inner selves. For Tooru Kokonoe, enrolling at the academy marks the beginning of a deeply personal journey fueled by loss. Haunted by his younger sister’s death, he seeks the strength to safeguard others and confront the tragedy that shaped him. But Tooru quickly finds himself an outlier: his Blaze isn't the expected weapon – no sword, lance, or gun for him. Instead, he manifests a shield, branding him as an "Irregular." Koryo Academy’s training system revolves around “Duo” pairings, where students are partnered to live, learn, and battle alongside one another. Tooru’s unexpected partnership is with Julie Sigtuna, a formidable fighter hailing from Scandinavia, whose striking silver hair hints at the strength she possesses.
The first day at Kouryo Academy found Tooru Kokonoe amidst a ritual of demonstration. Every student present was expected to showcase proficiency with their Blaze weapon during the entrance ceremony.
Tor and Julie established a comfortable routine as roommates, a temporary arrangement until the formal pairing of Duos was announced. Each harbored a particular person in mind as their ideal partner, yet the question lingered: would fate al…
The culmination of their mock battle tournament brought an unforeseen complication for Tor and Julie. As the final moments faded, Julie turned to Tor, her expression questioning, and broached a subject from his history.
Lilith Bristol, a transfer student, entered Tor’s class and subtly asserted her exceptional standing. Later, Tor and Julie set off for town, intending to do some shopping.
Following the Rite of Sublimation, Tor and his companions have found their abilities enhanced. Lilith now presents Tor with a further proposition, timed just before an arduous conflict between the classes.
Lilith orchestrated a battle among her classmates, drawing them into a fierce competition. Just as the contest began, a shadowy presence materialized, and a man with his own designs for Lilith entered the fray.
The summer camp, a seaside retreat for the students, was nonetheless Koryo Academy. And no school outing is truly complete without an element of contest.
The week of rigorous training concludes with a day for relaxation, and there is no place more fitting for unwinding than the shore. At the beach, Miyabi experiences a significant shift in her affections for Tor.
The Koryo Academy faces a fierce assault. Tor and Julie join forces to confront the leader of the invading force, while Tomoe embarks on a search for the vanished Miyabi.
Miyabi remains absent as Koryo Academy readies itself to welcome the enigmatic Reign group. Meanwhile, Tor presses Lilith for information regarding Absolute Duo.
Tor and his companions face the Rebels within Smith’s elaborate deadly game. Tomoe finds herself realizing how little she truly knows of her partner. K challenges Tor to a renewed contest.
Protection was an unfamiliar concept to K, so Tor resolved to demonstrate its meaning through a decisive, uncompromising confrontation.
