The series **Absentia** centers on Emily Byrne, an FBI agent who vanished and was presumed deceased, only to reappear six years later with no recollection of events. Her efforts to reunite with her son and husband—who has since remarried—are complicated by both an investigation into her past and a dangerous serial killer case. **Absentia** is also **Stana Katic’s** (_Castle_) debut on Amazon. Although the show begins with a compelling concept, it ultimately relies too heavily on faithful adaptations of the novel's casting choices. The constant push to create an ominous mood through drawn-out pauses or implausible character actions detracts from what the series could have been.
