I have considerable admiration for James Roday and Ron Livingston; I’ve genuinely appreciated their performances before…which makes this difficult to say. However, the truth is that this portrayal of suicide resembles something like 13 Reasons in its approach. It doesn't seem to celebrate it, but it strongly suggests that taking one's own life is a sad event that supposedly reveals hidden depths within a person. The performers involved are simply too talented for such material. It’s likely to be popular, especially among Millennials...but ultimately, it feels like an excessive amount of emotional excess centered on the idea that people who end their lives were profound individuals, and nothing more.
