Synopsis

On the secluded Greek peninsula of Mount Athos, Bob Simon journeys into a world untouched by time. He gains unprecedented access to monks residing in ancient monasteries, where a life of austere devotion has been practiced for a millennium. Cameras document their monastic existence: the rhythmic chanting, fervent prayers, solemn rituals, and the invaluable relics and icons of the Byzantine Empire preserved on this sacred land, known as "The Holy Mountain." The segment is produced by Harry Radlif
