Saturday Night Live celebrated its thirtieth season during the 2004-2005 television year on NBC, delivering twenty episodes from October 2004 through May 2005. The season marked a significant shift with Jimmy Fallon’s departure, paving the way for Fred Armisen to join the core cast as a repertory player. While Finesse Mitchell and Kenan Thompson continued their contributions as featured players, the show welcomed fresh faces including improv comedian and former U.S. Marine Rob Riggle, who appeared for a single season, and writer Jason Sudeikis, who rounded out the year as a featured performer in its final three episodes. Following Fallon’s exit, Amy Poehler stepped up to co-anchor Weekend Update alongside Tina Fey, creating the first ever all-female anchor duo. The season also became memorable—and infamous—for Ashlee Simpson's widely discussed lip-syncing mishap during her musical performance. Reflecting the political climate of the time, many sketches satirized the 2004 U.S. Presidential election; however, unlike the intense media scrutiny surrounding the show’s coverage of the 2000 election, these satirical pieces largely flew under the radar.
