I need to strongly advise you to simply pick up the novel instead. This adaptation falls short, failing to capture the depth and philosophical aspects present in the source material. It feels geared towards a less thoughtful audience—those without an interest in physics or cosmology. Initially, the production values don’t live up to what one would anticipate from a big-budget science fiction series. The special effects are acceptable but underwhelming considering the reported $20 million per episode cost! Furthermore, the character of Leyla is entirely new and doesn't exist in the book. She’s presented as a Kurdish fighter who received attention for fighting ISIS. While it’s common for adaptations to introduce or alter characters, this particular change has generated considerable debate; some believe there was indirect CIA involvement! The showrunners claim these modifications were intended to improve the narrative rather than being influenced externally, but I feel that cultural imperialism is at play here—an attempt to present a version of events distinct from reality. We’ve witnessed similar instances previously, like in "24." These alterations seem driven by political agendas; there are numerous examples if you look into it. The series has difficulty finding a balance between weighty science fiction concepts and action sequences, resulting in shifts in tone that don't quite work. I often find the new developments—those differing from what’s in the book—to be predictable or superfluous compared to the novel’s more complex narrative style. 3/10
