Synopsis

General Matthew Ridgway, commander of the United Nations forces, grew increasingly frustrated by the Communist delegation's inflexible position on the 38th Parallel during the peace talks in Kaesong. Meanwhile, Chinese incursions into the demilitarized zone underscored the continuing nature of the conflict. Preparations were also underway for a forthcoming UN offensive, intended to decisively resume large-scale combat.
