Synopsis

In the summer of 2018, Haruo Obata, then 78, became a national figure after locating a missing two-year-old boy during a search in southwestern Japan. This was but the latest act of kindness from the man often called a "super volunteer," dedicated to assisting those in distress. For nearly three decades, Haruo has offered aid to disaster survivors, from the devastation of the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake to the 2016 earthquakes that struck Kumamoto Prefecture.
