Synopsis

Leaving behind a career in city engineering, Yu Kikuchi has embraced a lifelong aspiration: to create with his own hands. At thirty-two, he now apprentices as a blacksmith in Shimanto, a quiet town in western Japan. His mentor is Kosaku Matsumura, a master blacksmith on the cusp of retirement; training Yu will be his last undertaking. The transmission of these time-honored skills in hand-forged work offers both obstacles and fulfillment for the aging master and his young pupil.
