Synopsis

Designated a UNESCO Natural World Heritage site in July 2021, the forests of Yambaru in northern Okinawa Island harbor a wealth of unique species. Among them are the Okinawa rail, a flightless bird endemic to the region, and the Okinawa wood frog, frequently considered the most beautiful frog in all of Japan. For generations, the forest has sustained the lives of the people who dwell within it, and in turn, they have diligently protected its delicate balance. With its newfound status as a natura
