"Saint Pierre" begins with an appealing idea, but unfortunately squanders its potential. Like many productions currently, the push to incorporate progressive themes significantly diminishes any enjoyment that could have been found in this show. Specifically, gender-related issues are prominently featured, and the male protagonist is repeatedly put down and criticized, frequently without a discernible reason. This becomes grating and prevents any real connection from developing between the central characters. Aside from this, the location—a small French territory near Canada that I wasn’t even aware existed—is somewhat unique. The crime stories themselves are fairly ordinary and don't stand out in any particular way. Ultimately, the trend of injecting political messaging into entertainment should stop. It creates conflict, alienates viewers, and diminishes the overall experience to a point where I likely won't bother watching it at all. Judging by the poor viewership numbers for other projects that do this, I’m far from being the only one who feels that way. Definitely not something I can suggest checking out.
