On June 6, 1971, Hughes Airwest Flight 706, a Douglas DC-9-31 bound for Salt Lake City, Utah from Los Angeles, California, collided with a U.S. Marine Corps McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II in mid-air over the San Gabriel Mountains, near Duarte, California.
