It's truthfully an enjoyable series, although I share the widespread affection for the initial MacGyver... specifically, the original version. The revamped, politically-themed MacGyver, however, isn’t something I care for. I also appreciated MacGyver when he was featured in a science fiction setting. While he never used hockey tickets to disarm an explosive, it remained a really good show. The series presented itself as respectable science fiction; it would address contemporary social, political, economic, and philosophical concerns by exploring them through the lens of another reality, offering commentary on that exploration without explicitly favoring one viewpoint—all while remaining engaging and easy to understand for people with differing opinions. Throughout all this, MacGyver was present, though he didn’t embody the character I know and there wasn't much in the way of narration. As another reviewer put it so well, "it kept going." *Stargate SG-1* continued for 10 years, which is considerably longer than most top-tier science fiction shows. It resembled *Star Trek*, but with different technology and a shifted time period. Eventually, the length became noticeable; it maintained its successful structure, but in the realm of science fiction, it simply stretched on too long.
