Initially, the program felt quite genuine, balancing humor and dramatic moments while featuring a cast that was generally appealing, aiming to portray everyday life for people living in northern England—specifically around Manchester. Few anticipated its success, but it propelled the actors to celebrity status. Recently, Coronation Street has begun resembling American soap operas. Some suggest that shows like EastEnders, with their heightened emotional scenes, have had an impact. Consequently, there's a noticeable reduction in humor, fewer characters who remain for extended periods, and a prevalence of murder storylines. If you sample the current version of Coronation Street and aren’t satisfied with the stories or how they unfold, I recommend seeking out some of the older episodes; you might find yourself enjoying them immensely.
