The 1970s witnessed a decline in the influence of critical left-wing thought; the promise of revolution had largely faded. Instead of traditional party structures like Maoists, Leninists, and Marxists, new activist movements emerged, championing women's rights, LGBTQ+ equality, animal welfare, housing reform, and solidarity with the developing world.
