Synopsis

Several years ago, Leonard Retel Helmrich was commissioned by Tegenlicht to film in Indonesia, a nation then reeling from a series of terrorist attacks. In *Flight from Heaven*, he painted a portrait of a ‘pesantren,’ an Islamic boys’ boarding school on Central Java, offering a glimpse into the world of a moderate Muslim community.
