Synopsis

Life's true standing should be earned, not inherited. A meritocracy, where opportunity begins equally for all, promises that those who demonstrate worth will ultimately prevail. Yet, as the scientist and political philosopher Michael Sandel argues, this very ideal can foster the rise of fascism. It carries an unspoken implication: hardship and lack of credentials are simply the consequence of personal failing. This notion breeds resentment and anger in those who struggle to succeed.
